The 5th Alzheimer's awareness conference was presented by the Latino Center on Aging on May 26, 2017. Appreciation is extended to Beverly Anderson, Director of the Department of Human Services Hepburn Center and Lizabeth Miguel, Senior Services Coordinator, for hosting the event at their center located in Hallandale Beach Florida. The Hepburn Center is a state of the art facility that serves over 46% of Hispanic seniors.
The main objective of the yearly Alzheimer's conference is to provide community awareness of the signs, effects and prevention of this treacherous illness that preys upon many seniors through their aging cycle. Guest speaker Dr. Ileana Leyva from Vitas Healthcare and panel of experts, Dr. Amarilis Acevedo from Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Faustino Gonzalez head of Hospice at Trustbridge Health, Inc and Jesica Lozada-Waszak, MSW, Helpline Care Consultant from the Alzheimer's Association, responded to questions from concerned citizens on what actions to take with anyone displaying signs of dementia, the most common cause of Alzheimer disease.
Last but surely not least, LCOA expresses their utmost gratitude to all that collaborated to make this highly needed event a huge success!
